Nitro FAQs

Nitro Overview

What is Nitro?

Nitro™ is a private broadband land mobile radio (LMR) solution provides commercial customers with outstanding voice quality and broadband data capabilities, while retaining the immediate and direct connection of LMR. Nitro™ is for commercial customers, delivering an end-to-end enterprise communications solution with premium voice communications and lightning-fast private broadband data.

With Nitro’s highly reliable broadband push-to-talk, voice conversations will sound clear and natural. Users will enjoy better indoor coverage for voice and data across their entire organization, enabled by incredibly fast private broadband data at twice the capacity* and up to four times the range* of Wi-Fi. Using the CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) spectrum, the Nitro solution provides commercial operations with simple deployment and management of their radio network and addresses the market need for a customized private network that delivers both voice and broadband data.

The new offering showcases Motorola Solutions’ commitment to providing customers with a complete suite of secure solutions that work across different bands of spectrum and network applications. Featuring push-to-talk, video feeds, enterprise security and workflow applications, as well as the first purpose-built radio to work on a CBRS network the SLN 1000 – Nitro enriches the MOTOTRBO portfolio with broadband capabilities that help LMR customers boost their existing LMR network. Customers can easily add new users to the network while still seamlessly communicating with existing LMR two-way radio users.

Nitro was developed to evolve with customers’ needs as the communications landscape evolves. Whether that means advanced LMR communications, future integrations of video surveillance, a secure operations center, or leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics, Nitro is ready to scale with any commercial operation.

*Based on 802.11a standard for 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi using similar channel bandwidths.

Does Nitro provide on-premise enterprise-grade private broadband?

Nitro offers broadband data speeds, so your teams can share information quickly and efficiently. And with up to four times the range of Wi-Fi, your people will be able to access the network from virtually anywhere on-site, using far fewer access points—whether they’re on densely packed factory floors, at busy airports or by the loading dock. Nitro also has twice the capacity of Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to add more devices to the network without being constrained by low bandwidth or slow speeds. You’ll also be able to free your Wi-Fi for other purposes, like increased or enhanced guest access.

Is Nitro a cloud-based solution?

The Nitro core is in the cloud, so there’s barely any setup, management or space required. And the hardware is ready to go as soon as you are. All it needs is power and an internet connection.

Are managed services available for Nitro?

Adding Nitro to your current setup couldn’t be easier. Motorola Solutions designs, installs, manages and maintains the entire system for a monthly subscription. No up-front network costs or unexpected surprises. Just a seamless, complete service that combines secure, enterprise-grade broadband with consumer-grade usability

Citizens Broadband Radio Service

What is Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS)?

CBRS, or the Citizens Broadband Radio Service, is 150 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band. Ranging from 3550 – 3700 Mhz, this band has historically been used sparingly by U.S. federal government radar systems, a few fixed satellite receivers and wireless internet service providers. When looking for additional spectrum to manage the influx of new mobile users, the FCC identified the sparsely used band for broader use to free spectrum for shared wireless.
